Lachenalia calicola [5]

Lachenalia calcicola is a rare, bulbous geophyte endemic to the Western Cape of South Africa, where it occurs in calcareous outcrops on coastal sandy flats and limestone flats, particularly in the De Hoop area. It produces a seasonal rosette of leaves and a raceme of flowers adapted for pollination by honeybees. The species is highly range-restricted, known from only two locations, and is assessed as Endangered because of continuing habitat degradation from invasive alien plants.
