Prominent in this issue of Haseltonia is a fascinating ViewPoints article on early cactus evolution challenging the notion that the leafy genus Pereskia is the most primitive (basal) member of the family. Among the 14 other articles is included the status of an endangered cactus native to Florida, Harrisia fragrans, and the documentation of flower anatomy with a flat bed scanner as a new technique that anyone can easily do (the cover photo of a dissected Astrophytum myriostigma flower was actually produced on a flatbed scanner). The rediscovery of a long-lost Crassula reads like a botanical whodunit, and we have the eighth installment of Charles Uhl’s venerable studies onEcheveria chromosomes and hybrids. And for new taxa, we present three species and one variety of Aloe, one species and one variety of Euphorbia, one Echeveria, one Sedum and one species and 3 varieties of Peperomia. Among the remaining articles Charles Craib offers an interesting investigation into variations (namely of flowering times) in a widespread Haworthia relative, Chortolirion angolense.
